The fourth session of the Academic Studies series brought together Elif Dastarlı and Tuğçe Arslan under the title “Feminist Perspectives and Expanding Boundaries III,” continuing the first two sessions of the same series. Through a feminist lens, the session explored mechanisms of resistance within art, emerging discursive spaces, and expanding boundaries through performance art and performativity.Elif Dastarlı—associate professor of art history, art critic, and member of the International Association of Art Critics—specializes in modern and contemporary Turkish art. Holding undergraduate and doctoral degrees from Istanbul University and an MA in Western and Contemporary Art from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Dastarlı discussed the possibilities, demands, and methods of feminist performance in developing a political-aesthetic language. Her presentation focused on how feminist performance creates a critical public sphere and its potential to foster forms of feminist resistance.Tuğçe Arslan—art historian, academic, art critic, and member of the International Association of Art Critics—received her PhD in Art History from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University and currently teaches at both Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University and Marmara University. Her presentation examined the coexistence of the concepts of “self” and “other” within the migrant body, focusing particularly on the migrant figure in the performance practice of Nezaket Ekici and the ways social engineering and power structures shape identity formation.
