D Whom is a British performance artist based in the ancient Zen capital of Kamakura, near Yokohama in Japan. He regularly appears on the queer cabaret and performance art scene in and around Yokohama and Tokyo. HIs work takes inspirations from cinema, comedy, fetish and drag, as well as Japanese art forms, such as Butoh and Noh opera.
His performances, which take the form of psycho-sexual tableaux, attempt to combine elements that are both delicate and delinquent, meditative and punk, addressing themes such as environmental and bodily disintegration and contemporary crises of identity.
He has appeared in comedy and horror movies, in cabaret and underground clubs, and gallery events. His 2019 performance for Yokohama Koganecho Art Bazaar will appear as part of the ‘Ebisen’ installation by Elena Knox at the Yokohama Biennale later this year.
